NHL 10 is The Bane of My Existance, Yet I Love It

NHL 10. Great game. I've even reviewed and commented on how it's the best sports title out there. That's until recently. After taking a break from Red Dead Redemption - which is the cat's ass by the way - I jumped back into the NHL saddle..er..skates. After a disappointing and pathetic real life Bruins loss in the second round I needed some personal redemption and outlet. So I've been hammering away at a new season using a custom team which I already had a season going with - only difference is I've bumped it up a difficulty level. Apparently with this minor change I've come across all sorts of bugs. The above image being one. 1900? Really? So they're going to come back before they were even born? That sound is a fuse that just blew in my mind.

Holy Christ on a stick - talk about a 'can't wait' game. This trailer is just awesome, but I will admit I almost feel bad for those stormtroopers. Also as smaht as Vader seems. A handful of troopers in a closed off room are supposed to handle a bad ass Jedi?

Created by the artist only known as PES, it takes us into the 'Game Over' scenarios of some classic arcade titles using everyday objects. Well almost, not sure if cupcakes are everyday objects for everyone. They should be.

For The Love of 8bit; A 'Best-of' Compilation We Didn't Do

There are a few things in this world we like. One being other people doing the work for us and then them telling us about it. Makes life easier for us, and frankly, that's really what it's all about. Our friend Zach (I call him friend but we've never met, but he did send us a nice email and he enjoys 8bit stuff so in our book he's a friend) sent us a 'Best-of' compilation gallery of all things 8bit. The above rendition of a close hero to us all is one example of many. So head over to gawker.tv and check out the rest of the gallery and enjoy Zach's hard-work damnit. We know we will. Note: if you're a hardcore 8bitreview fan some may seem familiar, but I don't think any hardcore fans exist. Le sigh...[thanks Zach]

That's about all I know. I went to his website to read his bio but quickly realized I don't speak French. What I did realize is that he makes cool short films. You can find them on his website and if you speak French maybe you can learn more about him. His latest - Pixels - posted above was shot on location in NYC and has a seamless integration of classic 8bit icons into the real world. Very smooth and very cool. Enjoy.
Cool Video Game Character Tattoos

I've never been a huge fan of tattoos, well at least on me. I had my moment of wanting one when I was 18 which quickly vanished when I went to the parlor and it was closed. All set with that. This list over at inkarttattoos.com is all about the ones on video game characters and some real life versions of them. Faith from Mirror's Edge might have the coolest one but that's just me. Something a tad different from people getting Mario or Link tats done. Check out the full list. And just for fun check out the more ridiculous ones at loltatz.com. Nothing like laughing at other people's mistakes to make you feel better about life.

[thanks jenni for the tip]

Madden 10 You Are Lame

Rant time cause I'm annoyed right now. I'm just going to throw this out there; Madden 10 is a total disappointment of a game. I just don't understand how EA can have one of the best sports titles ever, NHL 10, and right next to it the worst. Madden 10 does nothing better than it's predecessors and is really just a roster update with a game flow downgrade. In between plays, cuts scenes and a pathetic half time 'report' are just a few of the annoyances this game has to offer. But isn't the main reason I'm ranting or annoyed right now. I'm annoyed because I just wasted about 2hrs of my life getting through the playoffs and playing the super bowl, a win mind you, to be left with the shittiest championship celebrations in any game ever and then a wonderful black screen with just audio. Meaning, I really just lost. For Christ sakes, Tecmo Bowl had a better celebration. I think it's trade-in time and time to fire up some hockey.

[8bit Impressions] Borderlands

Cool cover art - sadly that's how I sometimes feel when I'm playing Borderlands. BL was pulling big punches as an FPS / RPG hybride, a sweet 4 player co-op title, and just a massive title in general. Then came the drastic art style change in the middle of development. This wasn't a small change by no means, this completely altered the look of the game. A look that, honestly, I was not a fan of when first seeing but has slowly grown on me as a standout style. Overall I'm not disappointed with Borderlands I'm still logging in hours but after getting over the bazillion guns, art style, co-op and FPS/RPG mix, I'm left with a feeling of something is missing to making this post-apocalyptic/Mad Max title perfect....

Although I'm sure most of the gaming world knew this was going to happen after the success of both titles, it's refreshing to see it in flesh and blood. First up the Arkham Asylum 2 trailer - not much in game footage but still very awesome and ends with a familiar face and looks like we'll be exploring more of Gotham which is just awesome. As for the Star Wars Force Unleashed 2 trailer...lets just say you'll get a little Force woody after watching it...after the break.
