Cool Video Game Character Tattoos

I've never been a huge fan of tattoos, well at least on me. I had my moment of wanting one when I was 18 which quickly vanished when I went to the parlor and it was closed. All set with that. This list over at inkarttattoos.com is all about the ones on video game characters and some real life versions of them. Faith from Mirror's Edge might have the coolest one but that's just me. Something a tad different from people getting Mario or Link tats done. Check out the full list. And just for fun check out the more ridiculous ones at loltatz.com. Nothing like laughing at other people's mistakes to make you feel better about life.

[thanks jenni for the tip]

Force Unleashed and Arkham Asylum - Who Wants Some Sequel Trailers?

Sweet sweetness is all I can say. Although I'm sure most of the gaming world knew this was going to happen after the success of both titles, it's refreshing to see it in flesh and blood. First up the Arkham Asylum 2 trailer - not much in game footage but still very awesome and ends with a familiar face and looks like we'll be exploring more of Gotham which is just awesome. As for the Star Wars Force Unleashed 2 trailer...lets just say you'll get a little Force woody after watching it...after the break. [ more.. ]

Space Invader Waffle and Pixelated Pancakes

Part of a balanced breakfast. This would make my day sunny no matter what. Over at the Pancake Project they strive to make the most interesting pancakes/waffles. Like the above Space Invader waffle there is also a Mario waffle that is just out of control. Head over to the site for some ridiculous pancake art.

Donkey Kong Jenga = Awesome

We love playing Jenga, especially while drunk with our friends. So what could possibly be better than combining our passions for Jenga and classic gaming? Nothing. This is it. Buy it here and get us one for Christmas while you're at it. [Amazon]

Half Life - Contra Hybrid Video

If Half Life lived in the Contra world - this is how it would look. There is also a cool Half-LifeVania (half life meets Castlevania) video but this one is just classic. You can find a shit-ton of gaming spoofed videos and the such over at machinima.com.

(thanks James)

Et tu, Mario?

Slate has a nice story about the highs and lows of playing with other people. You should read it. [Slate]

Space Pirates From Tomorrow the Game; Can We Get The B-Movie Tie-In?

Can this be made into a movie? Please, anyone? Just go with the title and this cover art and nothing more. I guarantee you'd have a B-movie cult classic on your hands. Well until then I guess we'll have to settle with the indie game by MStar Games! SPFT lends itself to an interesting balance of classic 80's gameplay and themes with the flexibility of the 360. Premise of the game - make cash, kill aliens and keep alive. That is actually my personal motto. SPFT has a completely random mission system meaning no two missions are alike. And with about 6,000 star systems to explore (yes, 6,000), trading missions, races and general free-for-all combat you're looking at a minimum of 100 hrs just to visit all the star systems and alot of variety in gameplay. The title will release through Xbox LIVE Indie Games channel but not before the Peer Review testing which will begin Nov. 16th with expected release within 3 weeks. For more details about the game, screenshots and MStar Games visit their official site.

Top 25 Video Game Trailers...Of All Time

Sorry forgot my password. The folks over at Asylum put together a nice list of the top video game trailers of all time. After we perused this list we have to agree with most of them. But in particular, and I think I can speak for the whole [8bit Crew], the Fallout 3 teaser trailer was our favorite. Although it barely made their 25 - it is up against some pretty great ones. We like this one because it's creepy as hell. Enjoy.

Gmail Introduces The Official 8bit Theme, Even If They Don't Know It

Recently, the fine folks in Google's Gmail division (Yes, they are very nice. You should think so too, because they have all of our personal information. Let's treat them accordingly! ) released a new theme for the Gmail page called High Score. We haven't been able to verify this, but we think it may be a tribute to our humble blog. If anyone can confirm this, we'd love the ego boost. Otherwise, make the switch immediately. We're all doing it.

Boston 8-bit Presents: Nintendo Music Thursday, Chiptune to Your Ears

Here's something we can get behind - especially if it's in our hometown. Boston 8-bit is a central location for finding out about Boston area chiptune/video game music happenings and artists. It's pretty amazing to hear what these artists are coming up with by just using classic 8bit sounds. It's probably not for everyone but definitely for those who have an attachment to those classic sounds. I know we do. If you're in the Beantown area tomorrow night, 10/8, Boston 8-bit is putting on a show at Felt in downtown. Not a bad venue to get some attention. Doors open at 8pm show starts at 9pm and will go to about 11:30pm or so. $8 cover but all proceeds go towards the artist which is always nice to hear. Show will feature Active Knowledge, Br1ght Pr1mate and Oxygenstar. Check out their myspace pages and visit www.boston8bit.com for more info on artists and upcoming shows.

Rapture

What you are looking at is a R2-D2 shaped cooler, with eight gaming consoles, sound system, inputs and projector. Check it out here. Amazing. [The End]

Splinter Cell Conviction Street Date: February 26, 2010

Splinter Cell Conviction

I want to believe you Ubisoft, I really do, cause I like you. Not in that stalker - sniff your undies kind of way, but I like you and will defend to the end. But I'm marking this on my calendar - if you don't deliver or something stupid happens like the end of the world, I will be upset. This announcement has made my day - given me something to look forward to. Jesus, that's sad. If you don't know anything about this game, you probably own a Mac (see below). Need for Speed? Win A BMW M3 via Twitter

I have a Need ::cue 80's high five:: For Speed! Top Gun anyone? Nevermind. EA is giving away a brand new 2010 BMW M3 via Twitter. That's right something from the future aka 2010 is brand new. As you can tell by those guys in the picture (us in 20 or so years) it's a sweet ride. Covering everything you need to know from Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Wars and even Halo 3: ODST. The encyclopedia was created in full collaboration with Microsoft Game Studios and guardians of all things Halo, 343 Industries. Way Of The Samurai 3 Available Free For iPhone / iPod Touch

I hadn't heard much about this title until recently. I checked out the details and some screenshots and it looks OK - probably better than the last few Tenchu outings. I know different styles but same area. Speaking of which - what the hell happened with Tenchu? Either way, there is no reason at all why we shouldn't have a sweet Samurai and/or Ninja based game. Hopefully Way of the Samurai 3 will take that honor and it's off to a good start by providing a, limited time only, free iPhone / iPod Touch app. I just downloaded it - opening sequence not only looks cool but is cool. The game itself so far is a simple side scroller, but we grew up on those so fine with me. Check out the official site for more info and link to the app store. Or just search it yourself - I'm sure you'll find it.
