[8bit Impressions] EA NHL 10 + Madden 10, One is a 10 the Other an 09

NHL 10

I recently picked up NHL 10 for Xbox 360 and Madden 10 for PS3 - it's the year of the 10, well at least for one of these titles. I haven't bought a Madden game since '07, but did play some '09, and it seems not much has changed other than some tweaks to the franchise mode and the gameplay. Actually some of the tweaks aren't better and end up making this game very mechanical and flat. As compared to NHL 10 - Madden doesn't compare and definitely doesn't do it's sport justice when put side to side. Which is strange you think these different EA studios could chat about how they approach development.

What you are looking at is a R2-D2 shaped cooler, with eight gaming consoles, sound system, inputs and projector. Check it out here. Amazing. [The End]

PS3 News: 1 million Sold Worldwide, 250GB Bundles Coming and More

So much to announce for PS3 I'm just going to put it all in one post. First off, Sony has tentatively announced that the Motion Controller, also a tentative name, will be available in Spring 2010. I'm sure that will change depending on when Xbox makes a move with Natal. There is a list of titles that will take advantage of the Motion Control come 2010, but I don't really feel like listing them. Most are working titles, lame sequels eg High Velocity Bowling, or titles that don't have any bearing, yet. Motion Control function will be added by a network update.

PS3 sells a million units since September 1. Again a tentative number provided by Sony. But I'm sure its not far off. This could be some cross over of the larger console or just the price point but I know I am one of those million units sold and loving it. Can't wait for some of the big exclusives this fall. Down side - 2ft USB cable for the controller come on? Good thing it can go wireless.

Finally, some bundles to announce. A serious lineup for the holiday season including - 250GB PS3s with either FIFA 10 and Need for Speed Shift. Both bundles will be available throughout retail in October.

Splinter Cell Conviction Street Date: February 26, 2010

Splinter Cell Conviction

I want to believe you Ubisoft, I really do, cause I like you. Not in that stalker - sniff your undies kind of way, but I like you and will defend to the end. But I'm marking this on my calendar - if you don't deliver or something stupid happens like the end of the world, I will be upset. This announcement has made my day - given me something to look forward to. Jesus, that's sad. If you don't know anything about this game, you probably own a Mac (see below). For more info visit www.splintercell.com.

BioShock Available for Mac October 7

I can't imagine many Mac owners really caring about this. But Feral Interactive will be releasing the critically acclaimed BioShock for Mac. I guess that's something to get excited about, but if you're that much into gaming you own a console or better yet a gaming PC built to the 9s. (is that even a saying) I also feel that Mac owners think gaming is below them and is only something that would interfere with them sending creative emails or creatively surfing the web. Who knows I may be wrong. If you own a Mac here's more info.

Need for Speed? Win A BMW M3 via Twitter

I have a Need ::cue 80's high five:: For Speed! Top Gun anyone? Nevermind. EA is giving away a brand new 2010 BMW M3 via Twitter. That's right something from the future aka 2010 is brand new. As you can tell by those guys in the picture (us in 20 or so years) it's a sweet ride. Need for Speed is posting five daily Twitter missions that challenges followers to complete various...challenges...to win the BMW M3 as well as other cool sh**. Like copies of Need for Speed SHIFT, an Xbox 360 and wireless racing wheel, concert tickets, and more. According to them the rules are simple. The more missions/challenges you complete, the better your odds are of winning (five entries per person if all five missions are completed). So go follow @NeedforSpeed on Twitter and start doing something. For breakdown of rules etc..visit www.needforspeed.com.

Halo Encyclopedia Coming November 2nd

Similar to the definitive Alien guide or Star Wars guide we have laying around. The Halo Encyclopedia is a 352 page guide to all things Halo. Covering everything you need to know from Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Wars and even Halo 3: ODST. The encyclopedia was created in full collaboration with Microsoft Game Studios and guardians of all things Halo, 343 Industries. Some key chapters include: Timeline, Humans, Spartans, The Covenant, The Flood, The Forerunners, The Human-Covenant War, Locations and Weapons. Seems like you can get this a bit earlier on Amazon.

Halo, Dolly!

With the release of Halo: ODST, IGN has posted a video Halo in 5 minutes. You can brush up on the story line before you go out and buy your copy. I for one still have little clue as to what the hell is going on, even after the review. Good hunting.

Way Of The Samurai 3 Available Free For iPhone / iPod Touch

I hadn't heard much about this title until recently. I checked out the details and some screenshots and it looks OK - probably better than the last few Tenchu outings. I know different styles but same area. Speaking of which - what the hell happened with Tenchu? Either way, there is no reason at all why we shouldn't have a sweet Samurai and/or Ninja based game. Hopefully Way of the Samurai 3 will take that honor and it's off to a good start by providing a, limited time only, free iPhone / iPod Touch app. I just downloaded it - opening sequence not only looks cool but is cool. The game itself so far is a simple side scroller, but we grew up on those so fine with me. Check out the official site for more info and link to the app store. Or just search it yourself - I'm sure you'll find it.

DIY Racing Simulator Is The Next Project You'll Never Finish

Go ahead. Download the 66 page instruction .pdf, gather you're building materials, and even recruit a few friends to help you out and I'm still betting you'll never finish it. Prove me wrong by sending us proof you finished the job and I'll send you a very special 8bit prize. I dare you.

We know one guy who could maybe pull it off, Aaron. This crazy bastard bought a sewing machine to make those bags you toss in a game of Cornhole! Maybe..maybe he could pull it off. [0-60mag.com]

2K Announces BioShock 2 Global Release Date

BioShock 2

Finally - some good news. 2K Games have announced a global release date of - February 9, 2010 - for the much anticipated BioShock 2. Mark your god-damn gaming calenders! The game is already available on pre-order at some retailers. Taking place 10 years after the first title the halls of Rapture are once again filled with f**ked up shit. Playing as the Big Daddy players will travel through the fallen city once again in search of answers. Multiplayer looks to provide a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock story. That sounds interesting. For more info on the game check out the official site or The Cult of Rapture or Something In The Sea.

Oktoberfest - The Official Game for iPhone? What?

What. The. F**k.

I'm in a swearing mood today if you've read the last couple of posts. Mostly because stupid shit like this makes me swear. Other things that make me swear: stubbing my toe, cyclists in cities, loosing to 'that guy', people who try to tell me Harrison Ford isn't awesome, and wind (the actual element - its f**king annoying). What do all of these things have in common? They suck. Oktoberfest the official game falls in between stubbing my toe and cyclists. Mostly because even though they suck, I can get over it and move on. This game makes no sense. Why would I want to drink pixelated beer? To get pixelated pahlastered? So I can make a pixelated ass out of my self? So I can hit on pixelated girls? Download Tetris instead.

Things We Never Intend to Do; Farm or Play A Farming Simulator

I don't mind simulators. Flight simulators - cool. SimCity - very cool. Sims - strange, but still cool. Farming simulator - not cool. Some things don't need to be simulated. Farming is one of them. On a scale of boring as shit - this may top the cake. Maybe listening to Kenny G practice...actually no. That's wrong. Watching Kenny G practice would be way better than leveling up my tractor or baler. Either way it's exactly what you'd expect. There's also a career mode - or as us, stuck up-arrogant, city folk like to call it  - f**king boring mode. More info if you're actually interested.

Konami's Zombie Apocalypse Hits XBLA and PSN Next Week

Zombie Apocalypse

On the list of fun things to do - destroying hordes of zombies is definitely, in my opinion, in the top 5 and is something that will never get old. Because what better reason to shoot something than it's semi-dead and wants to eat my brains. Konami is planning on quenching your zombie blood lust next week when it's Zombie Apocalypse gets released on XBLA and PSN - Sept. 23 and 24 respectively. This arcade style shooter will have players armed to the tits with 11 diverse weapons. I guess that's not really that armed. More like armed to the waist with assault rifles, flamethrowers, C4 f**king teddy bears and a chainsaw for those up close encounters. What is a zombie game without a chainsaw? Exactly. Nothing. Players can also take advantage of environmental hazards to destroy the massive undead hordes. 7 environments, 55 days of zombie attacks, bonus modes mixed with multiplayer capabilities make this a nice little ditty. 800 MS points or $9.99 for PSN.

Mario Is A Sick F*ck

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of TeeFury.com. You get a cool, limited availability t-shirt on the cheap. Most of their designs appeal to our sensibilities here at 8bit, but today's strikes particularly hard. Today's shirt, illustrating how Mario feels about woodland creatures is only available until midnight Eastern Standard Time. Jump on it before it's gone forever. [TeeFury]
