As the battle between Microsoft and Sony continues, I for one have reached a point of total apathy. For those of you unfamiliar with the current state of affairs, in mega-corporate-overinflated video game world, both Sony and Microsoft have announced a price cut on their gaming consoles. (Meanwhile, Nintendo is working on new technology that actually turns you into a WiMote thus negating the danger of hurling the controller into your television.) [ more.. ]

This will probably come off as sounding like a PS3 fanboy rant but it's not my intention. It's more of an industry observation and my thoughts on a possible shift of power if you will. Sony made a fairly big announcement this week at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany which could bring them back into the limelight. Confirming the rumor we all knew, about the PS3 Slim and a significant price cut, finally puts them in direct alignment with the 360. Reducing the system size and power consumption by about 30% and dropping the price tag to $299 for a 160GB system should have Microsoft on its heels. This seems like an all for broke move by Sony and honestly I think it will pay off. The hefty and arguable value of spending $400/$500 on a system held back the PS3, well it did for me at least. Even though you were getting some of the best gaming tech out there plus a blu-ray player and hub for digital media that will only improve. Spending that much just wasn't in the cards for alot of people including PS fans. But this has been a moment I've been waiting for and was something that was inevitable, especially if they wanted to compete with the 360. [ more.. ]

EA announced today that Spore Hero and Spore Hero Arena will be landing on the Wii and DS this October. Both titles were built from the ground up and exclusively for the Wii  and DS and look to bring a new level of action and adventure to the monstrous franchise. Spore Hero takes players on a quest to become the hero as they try to save their creature's home planet from being destroyed. Spore Hero Arena takes place in the same universe as Spore Hero but takes players on a quest to save planets in their own galaxy from an evil force. Arena is more of an expansion but has multiplayer capabilities allowing players to battle each other over wi-fi or up to three locally. For more info check out the official site. 

Finally, this Friday we'll get a little taste of the much hyped Batman: Arkham Asylum title. Well I had a little taste awhile back and enjoyed it quite a bit, but apparently this demo will be a little more. Releasing for the 360 and PS3 the demo will take players through the first portion of the game. Where the Commish and Dark Knight are leading the Joker to Arkham Asylum. Below is yet another trailer - the demo trailer shows off a bit more of the game, but at this point does it matter? Just release the damn game already.
