[8bit Impressions] [Prototype]

Prototype

If you are wondering why this is an “impressions” and not a review, it’s because we actually take the time to enjoy our games as opposed to some other sites. And that my friends, is one of the reasons games like Assassins Creed and Prototype occasionally don’t get the credit they deserve. Sure we could blast through all of our games on easy, ignoring side quests and achievements, but one of the benefits of not having a deadline, is having the ability to enjoy being a gamer while affording us the opportunity to give you, the reader a honest, less jaded opinion.

Hitman 5 Plot to Coincide With Movie Sequel

As you may have already heard Hitman 5 is in production - as is a sequel to the so-so movie - and is looking at a late 2010 release. Twentieth Century Fox has hired screenwriter Kyle Ward to script the film which will have caught Agent 47 at a low point and he must build himself back up physically and mentally to reclaim his 'most feared assassin' status. The film, according to Variety, will have elements from the game Hitman 5. Ward has also scripted "Kane & Lynch" which will be a Lionsgate film with Bruce Willis starring and Simon Crane directing.

New Punisher Trailer Really Offers No Mercy

This quick trailer really shows off the 'No Mercy' aspect of the new title, which is due out this Thursday (7/2) on the Playstation Network. Show some brains, blood splatter and dismemberment via shotgun put to some shitty 'metal' music and you have yourself a kickass trailer.

EA Mobile Bringing You Summer Blockbusters

Movies

Merchandise - merchandise - merchandise! Star Trek the lunch box, Wolverine the t-shirt, Harry Potter the doll and GIJOE the flamethrower - the kids really love that one. And now, thanks to EA Mobile all these summer blockbusters will be coming to your mobile phone. Yay! Excitement! Now you can step into your favorite characters shoes, mini ones at that, on your mobile phone in these most likely crappy movie to mobile game translations. Who knows maybe the mobile GI JOE will be better than what looks like a steaming pile of horseshit of a movie. But that's just going by the trailer - hopefully the other hour and 45 min isn't as crappy. Star Trek is already available on feature phones and the iPhone and Wolverine is available on feature phones. Harry Potter and GI JOE will be available in July to coincide with the movies because that's how marketing works.

RROD Coasters: Won't Prevent You From Playing Drinking Games

RROD Coasters

You probably have already seen these floating around cyberspace, but they're too cool for us to pass up. It seems very fitting to have RROD coasters separate your alcoholic beverages from your furniture. I'm not sure these would make great gifts for a  RROD victim though. They may just drum up hidden emotions and land them on a path of revenge. [source

Batman Arkham Asylum, Albeit Short, First Impression

Batman Arkham Asylum

Today I was out and about running some errands when my trip took me to Target to pick up a new TV stand. The old bass amp as a tv stand isn't cutting it anymore. As I was making my around the always hectic Target on a Saturday - I came across the electronics section. Which is directly across from the toy section - by the way the new throw back GI JOE toys - awesome. I always peruse the electronic section - it's just instinct. As I walked through the gaming aisle I noticed a demo up for the PS3. As I inspected closer - I realized it was a Batman Arkham Asylum demo. My first thought was holy shit it's out, but what happened to the late August release? I quickly scanned the games and realized what I thought was a random gem find - wasn't. But I did get a chance to check out the demo... [ more.. ]

Starcraft 2 This Year and Confused Swedish Fish

Swedish Fish
While the rumored release of Starcraft II this year isn't breaking news, the fact that the Swedish have AV technical problems at the world's largest computer festival is. Lead designers Chris Sigaty and Dustin Browder of Blizzard sat down at the DreamHack computer festival to field some questions about the upcoming title and some. Other than the game being released this year they also revealed that the soundtrack will be performed by a full-scale epic orchestra. You can check out the full 18 min interview on press2play.tv. Don't be afraid at first if you can't understand them - it's actually quite entertaining. Especially the part when they have the technical problem the two interviewers actually look like confused Swedish fish. Gor lite ovasen!! Official StarCraft II website.

[8bit Spotlight] Stickmen Studios Ltd.

Stickmen Studios Ltd

It's been awhile since we've done one of these. We kind of fell of the [8bit Spotlight] bandwagon. Well to get us back into it the spotlight has fallen on a software development team based in New Zealand - which is not the capital of Australia. Stickmen Limited is a fairly new developer that is committed to developing original concepts for console, PC and handheld platforms. The company's goal is "Breakthrough Gaming," that provides players never before seen gameplay that drives radical and riveting adventures.  Currently they're working on a Wiiware title called Dragon Master Spell Caster, an exciting new game where players ride dragons and battle foes using unique combinations of melee and spells. For more info about the game and a trailer visit nintendolife.com. For more about the developer visit the Stickmen Studios site.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game First Impressions

Ghostbusters

I figure I'd do a 'first impression' of the new Ghostbusters video game rather than wait for a full review because that could be months from now. My roommate picked up a copy this morning for PS3 and rubbed it in my face, through a quick gchat, that he was "busting ghosts" while I was at work. He's a good friend, really. His quick synopsis through short text blasts in the chat box were basically - yea it's fun. Which honestly I think is all one can expect with this title - pure fun. Like the films. As soon as I got home from work I pwned a burrito and fired up the new game. So far so good, everything is how it should be and more importantly how I expect it to be. Original music - nice. Nods to the original movies here and there - nice, I can feel the nostaglia. Original actors with decent dialogue - we might be onto something...

New Content and Shadow Moses Map Available For Metal Gear Online

Shadow Moses

For the week long celebration of MGS4's anniversary Konami today released some new content and the famed "Shadow Moses" map for Metal Gear Online. The content will be available for those who purchased the SCENE Expansion Pack. The new map - Icebound Inferno - aka Shadow Moses features an Artic Island with a large snowfield and buildings of varying heights. Wow, cool. Along with this cool map players can use Old Snake as a unique character and the Octo-cam suit as a weapon. Of course there is a twist - the suit will not make Snake completely invisible but will allow him to automatically blend with the environment. Amazing. There is also something about Auto Matching Reward mode where the winner of the match wins more reward points than normal. Sweet, a daily double. Three expansion packs are available for purchase via Metal Gear Online in-game shop. Now, go kill shit in the snow.

Atari Based iPod Dock - Now You've Crossed A Line

Atari iPod Dock

I...I...I don't even know what to say. My only hope is that that was a non-functioning Atari. We here at [8bit] love tech, mods, innovation and cool shit...but this might be crossing a line for us. I feel like someone just ran over my pet frog trying to cross the street in a high traffic area. This iPod dock - which couldn't you have just bought a normal one like everyone else - is made up of a broken iPod clock radio and an Atari. Stuff the clock radio guts inside said Atari and poof you have yourself an iPod dock. You'll also have your friends saying, What did you do?! [source]

Konami To Celebrate MGS4 One Year Anniversary This Week

Konami

In celebration of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots one year anniversary, Konami has announced they will make daily updates and announcements on the franchise each day this week. Fans can expect game updates and other 'highly anticipated' announcements about the series. Another title? Or just videos on how the game was made? Or maybe some crazy DLC that will blow our minds? Who knows - but as soon as we know we'll let you know. Unless of course we forget to post it which tends to happen sometimes.

Holy Gundam!

Japanese Gundam

Those fucking Japanese are always a few steps ahead of us on tech. We really need to get working on one of these to protect Boston (because that's where 8bit is, duh). Follow the link to some beautiful shots of Toyko's new protector lamping for the cameras at night. Pretty vain, for a robot. [Pink Tentacle]

Ubisoft Expands Digital Distribution With Metaboli

Metaboli

Ubisoft is jumping into the digital distribution pool head first. Individual Ubisoft titles will be available for the first time in a digital-download-to-own format through the UBIshop, gamesplanet.com in europe, and gametap.com in the US. Metaboli steps in as the European leader in the digital distribution of PC games and will support the UBIshop and recently aquired gametap.com in distributing the 47 Ubisoft titles currently in their catalogue. Now all we need are terabyte sized harddrives so we can kill the retail messengers.
