Bionic Commando Demo is Live

Capcom's multiplayer demo for its forthcoming reimagining/reboot/retelling of Bionic Commando has just gone live. This demo is free to all Xbox Live Gold members. Sadly it will cost PS3 owners 299.00 dollars because this demo is currently a Xbox exclusive. The demo takes place on "Vertigo" (Half-Life deathmatches oh how I miss you), one of the game's 16 multiplayer maps. The multiplayer aspect of this game could give it legs. I can't wait to download this when they set me free from my caged cube. Happy swinging boys and girls.

XBMC Media Center Is Cooler Than You Think

If you don't know - XBMC (formerly XBox Media Center) is a cross platform open source media player and entertainment hub - hence the Media Center portion of the name. It's an all in one entertainment center piece that seems to get overshadowed. Orginally designed for the first Xbox, XBMC is available for Linux, Mac OS X (Leopard, Tiger, Apple TV) and Microsoft Windows operating systems. What no Sony in that list? It supports just about everything from audio to video to third party plugins to various skins to make it 'yours.' There is even a plugin for Hulu available. What gets me is the open source part of this. Microsoft and open source go together like...well, Microsoft and anything else. But it is and its very customizable and apparently easy to setup. I have yet to get my hands on it and try it out - but I'm looking at this old Xbox and thinking it finally has a use. The only stupid thing I can see out of this is the name. XBMC Media Center. Doesn't the MC already stand for Media Center? Check out some mods, updates and how-to's via lifehacker. Or just visit the XBMC official site it's pretty extensive with information.

[8bit Spotlight] Playlogic Entertainment

Playlogic is a worldwide independent publisher for consoles, PCs, handhelds and mobile devices. Playlogic's in-house studio: Playlogic Game Factory in Breda, da Nederlands, is made up of about 80 people and is one of the most modern and advanced development studios. Even though the Game Factory has developed titles across the board recently the studio has been working as a first party contractor for Sony. They have a new title coming out for the 360 titled: Fairytale Fights, where players play as their favorite fairytale character and try to regain their lost fame and save the fairytale world from certain doom. This doesn't sound like a game for kids as it's a hack and slash backed with a black-humour-slapstick-comedy-gore setting. Sounds like the [8bit Office]. For more on the title visit the Fairytale Fights game page. For more on Playlogic visit their official site.

Sex is Violent

Just when I thought I was done spending my hard earned Microsoft points, they pull me back in! Jane's Addiction's album "Nothing's Shocking" will be available for download in Rock Band by this time next week. If for some reason you aren't familiar with this record, I can without reservation recommend the download. This is one of the most important albums of the past thirty years, hands down. Our musical landscape would be vastly different if not for this release. Oh, and on a side note, these are going to be some amazingly fun songs to play. I pity the singer though, Perry Farrell has a falsetto that is going to be murder on your vocal chords. Look for the download April 28th.

Playable Joker Exclusively for PS3 - Batman: Arkham Asylum

So as more and more info gets released for Batman: Arkham Asylum - the more and more I get excited about it. Finally, we may get the Batman game we've wanted. From the villians you'll face, including a, ah-hem, revealing Harley Quinn to some more random villains, Arkham Asylum looks to be THE Batman game. Now Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. have announced that the Joker himself will be a playable character exclusively for the PS3 version of the title. The Joker will be available as a free download and can be played in Challenge Maps from the game. All this hype lets hope it lives up to it.

Assassin's Creed Available for the iPhone

A co-worker of mine told me we should cover more iPhone related games since there are about 3 million plus people that might be interested. Well, I scoffed at his Apple fanboy-ness and said whatever - go single click something. But here I type, about an iPhone game, but not just any game - Assassin's Creed. Today Gameloft launched Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles for the iPhone, which is a prequel to the hit console title. The iPhone title will take Altair on a quest to steal 'The Chalice' from the Templars in order to end the Crusades. Sounds pretty simple to me. Included are 6 weapons for Altair to unleash his stealth attacks, skill-based mini games to test your patience and dexterity, and the ability to upgrade your character and weapons. The title is compatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch. Neither of which I own.

8 Bit Weapon Releases Limited Edition CD and Loop Library

Chiptune masters, 8 Bit Weapon, has performed across two continents with their unique techno/pop sound and have released a handfull of albums with sounds inspired by classic videogame soundtracks and electronic music from the 70's and 80's. Sony Creative Software has just released their loop and sample library called, 8 Bit Weapon: A Chiptune Odyssey. The library contains real sounds from: Apple II, Commodore 64, NES, Gameboy, and the Atari 2600 with each system library containing everything from drums, bass and synth to special effects. 8 Bit Weapon, aka Seth & Michell (computeHer), have also featured a few demos built into the collection. They've also just released "Electric High EP" featuring six new songs as a Limited Edition CD which you can get on a 5.25" Floppy Disk. Rock Band Going Lego

I'm not sure what the point of this is other than to milk two super franchises, but I guess that is the point. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, The Lego Group, Harmonix and MTV Games have announced Lego Rock Band. The title will be available for the usual suspects - PS3, 360, Wii and DS sometime in 2009. The combination of two already family friendly franchises will make for the ultimate family experience - game will not include arguments over who gets to play drums. I have a feeling when this idea came up the first thought wasn't - "hey, we should make a game that really brings the family together." More like, ok the Rock Band franchise is getting old - and just dishing out new tracks won't keep it fresh - and Lego Mad Max doesn't really ring kid-friendly. There is absolutely no point to this game happening. It's borderline gimmicky by combining two well known franchises that are approaching the end of their prime. But maybe I'm wrong - maybe I'm also a humpback whale that has an opinion and a water proof laptop.

RROD'd 360 Transformed into Arcade Stick

Are you tired of dealing with Microsoft's amazingly oblivious "customer support" every time your console Red Rings or E74's? How many times do you have to explain to Microsoft what a hardware failure is? Starting to think that you'll never convince them that taking the hard drive out, or checking the power source won't magically make the console work again? Well, you’re in luck friend. Modder Seppun has shown us the light and transformed his bricked console into a very non bricked arcade stick. Thanks goes out to TechEblog for this one.

Condemned 2 for 19.99 USD

Don't take this as a review of Condemned 2, because I am literally only three chapters in. I must say, that so far I am really enjoying it. The scares are quite cheap, but tell that to my failing heart. This was a game that I initially passed over when it was released last year. I just couldn't justify the purchase at the time with so many gems being released around the same time. Now that the price has dropped to from 59.99 to 19.99, I can without hesitation recommended this game. It would be a shame to miss out on this pitch perfect nightmare world that Monolith has created. I hear that the game falls apart towards the end, but the way I see it, 70% of a classic game is more than worth the current asking price. So if you are tired of shooting zombies, I highly suggest bludgeoning some homeless meth addicts. Happy hunting.

OnLive Joining Console Battle Winter 2009

While the major consoles are trying to convince you to have another piece of equipment in your living room for that total media experience - OnLive is doing the opposite. Basically OnLive is like On Demand - but with video games that you can play on your TV with the MicroConsole, on a PC or a MAC. OnLive, which has been in development for about 7 years now, is finally ready to be released to the masses come this winter. They've managed to partner with some big names including EA, Eidos, Ubisoft, Take2 and THQ among a few others. Although no pricing has been confirmed it is rumored that it'll be a monthly fee - and there will be the ability to either rent or purchase titles this along with the purchase of the basic hardware - microconsole and controller. Some cool features include DVR-like abilities so you can record some of your gaming accomplishments to share with others. I for one am very interested in this and to see how it plays out. Although pricing is extremely important for this to work - more importantly is lag. If there is any at all what's the point - you might as well pack up your servers and go home. For more info check out their official site.

Turn Your Old NES Into a PC

Oh Mods...gotta love 'em. This is a pretty cool DIY for turning your old NES system into a PC with a CD/DVD drive. This allows you to install emulators for old systems and games but still have that old school look and feel. Probably better than causing yourself to pass out from blowing 'dust' out from the ole cartridge. No need for a mouse or keyboard either - everything can be controlled using the original gamepads. Check out the step by step process on instructables and while you're there check out the NES gamepad belt buckle / bottleopener. Perfect for that special retro-indie friend of yours that wears jeans so tight if he farts he'll blow his shoes off. [post via instructables / tight jeans joke via Sinbad]

We Want Solo's, But We'd Take Deckard's

This is a story that makes us miss Harrison Ford's glory days. Remember when Han, Indy, and Rick were running around, shooting first? Those were the good old days.

Now that we have you all misty-eyed, head over to Reuters and check out the story about Deckard's gun going up for auction soon. There's only one, and apparently it's going to fetch atleast 150k. Makes us wonder what Han's blaster would go for on the open market if Lucas ever put it up for sale. Hell, maybe he already has...we are not in the mood for research at the moment.
