Street Fighter and Mega Man themes for iGoogle

If you use the internet at all then I'm sure Google owns you too. It owns me but you know what ...I don't mind. I sleep better at night knowing Google is out there protecting every bit of personal information about me. Well now thanks to Capcom and Google you can pimp out your iGoogle page with either a Street Fighter theme or Mega Man theme. It's much cooler than the guy in the above photo. For the Street Fighter theme click here. For the Mega Man theme click here. It will automatically update your iGoogle page - and don't worry if you don't like it there is an 'undo' button a button that we all wish existed in real life. For other gaming themes check out the Google Gaming Theme page.

Bionic Commando Ships this May

Capcom has announced Bionic Commando will ship to North America on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 for both Xbox 360 and PS3. BC first wowed folks about 20 years ago on the ole NES - actually I think we have a copy of that here in the [8bit Office]. In this reloaded version players take control of Nathan Spencer the ultimate fusion of man and machine. Robocop may have something to say about that but this isn't about him. Nathan returns as a government op who after distinguishing himself in fierce conflict is betrayed by the very people he served. But of course there are bio terrorists that detonate an experimental device over Ascension City and of course there is only one option - reactive Nathan Spencer. Because if you didn't - well you wouldn't have a game now would you? BC will have an in-depth multiplayer mode via XBL and PSN. PC version of Bionic Commando is due to ship shortly after the console release. For game info visit the official Bionic Commando site.

[8bit Spotlight] Sucker Punch Productions LLC

Sucker Punch Productions LLC, a developer based out of Bellevue, WA, was founded in 1997 and has since created stylish, critically acclaimed character-based video games. Their most notable titles are from the Sly Cooper franchise for the PS2 which as a series sold over four million copies and took home some awards from both the IGDA and AIAS awards ceremonies for "Original Game Character of the Year," and "Outstanding Achievement in Animations." Before the Sly Cooper series they created Rocket: Robot on Wheels for N64. Now they look to develop their first next gen sandbox title, inFamous, which is a large scale super hero action adventure title exclusively for the PS3. inFamous will place players in an open world environment with some good vs evil type of decisions which will in turn effect the characters abilities and  plot outcome. After a massive explosion in Empire City an everday guy, Cole, is left with some Sith like super powers and must work through an evolving mystery which has him pinned as the culprit behind the blast. inFamous looks to ship in June and looks to be pretty awesome. Shock as Publishers Announce Sequels to Popular Titles

Image

In a series of brave and bold moves publishers have been announcing sequels to games that have been popular. The latest publisher to do so has been Rockstar who announced that they are working on Max Payne 3.

This comes hard on the heels of Capcom's announcement of Lost World 2, a follow up to the immensely popular Lost World. The gaming world was stunned as sequels had not been expected.

An anonymous slack-jawed gamer was quoted as saying: "I never expected them to make another Max Payne game after the success of the first two. What ever will be next? A sequel to Duke Nukem 3D?"

But seriously, Max Payne will return this winter on Xbox 360, PC and PS3, with Rockstar Vancouver handling the development this time around. The story will follow on from the end of Max Payne 2. Despite Max having left New York and the NYPD far behind he finds himself double-crossed and having to fight his way out and find the truth in yet another city rife with violence and double-dealing.

"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

The Bat Symbol Through The Years

Tim said I should mention Arkham Asylum as an excuse to put this cool little video up. Fuck Arkham Asylum. Until I see otherwise, I believe it's going to suck like every other Batman game.

The above video, set to the music of underground Irish punk band U2, illustrates how the symbol Batman (or THE Batman, depending where you're from) wears on his chest has changed over the years. If I was a tattoo guy, I'd have a series of these running down each arm. Alas, I'm not a tattoo guy.

Is Guitar Hero Running Out Of Material?

Activision will soon make Stan Bush's Transformers: The Movie anthem The Touch available as a Guitar Hero download. I understand there is some kitsch value here and a few of my friends will likely grab it right away (Googs and Pete, I'm looking at both of you), but this song is fucking stupid. I'd go so far as to call it one of the worst songs ever written. Really not much else to say here, the above video speaks for itself.

Annoyed the Void

I was just about to post the Dark Void trailer for your viewing pleasure and then I realized what a waste of time the trailer actually is. It's just a hollow montage of choreographed action sans gameplay. The game pretty much resembles Orson Scott Card's diarrhea. I can't in good faith post that video. Instead, I will post the riveting plot synopsis from Wikipedia: "The game's story will center around a cargo pilot named Will who crashes in the Bermuda Triangle. From there, he is teleported to a parallel universe where he encounters other humans, called Survivors." Huzzah!

You know, it's nice to see that the game developers took time to work out a passionate storyline instead of relying on some newfangled gameplay gimmick like say, vertical cover.

Blow.

Mass Effect 2 Announced

In a move that surprised no one except for those dirty uneducated Krogans, BioWare officially announced Mass Effect 2 today. Dr. Ray Muzyka General Manager and CEO of BioWare promised to "surpass the extraordinary gaming experience we brought our fans in Mass Effect by delivering intensified combat and expanded weapon options as well as increased depth of planet exploration, all while delivering a powerful, emotionally engaging story." Which in gamer speak, roughly translates to "more rough alien sex while acting like a kick ass space cowboy." Mass Effect 2 is coming to PC and the Xbox 360 in Early 2010. Head over to www.masseffect.com for more info.

Burn the land, boil the see. You can't take the sky from me. Giddy up.

8-bit Pool Bringing 8bit Art Together

We're suckers for Mega Man. We're also suckers for people who put their artistic talents to good use by creating anything 8bit related. Above is a painting by the Arcade Artist who puts 8bit related images on anything from canvas to coasters. You can check out his personal collection on flickr. The Arcade Artist is also a contributor of a larger group of 8bit artists who have a great gallery called the 8bit Group Pool.
