PS3 News: 1 million Sold Worldwide, 250GB Bundles Coming and More

So much to announce for PS3 I'm just going to put it all in one post. First off, Sony has tentatively announced that the Motion Controller, also a tentative name, will be available in Spring 2010. I'm sure that will change depending on when Xbox makes a move with Natal. There is a list of titles that will take advantage of the Motion Control come 2010, but I don't really feel like listing them. Most are working titles, lame sequels eg High Velocity Bowling, or titles that don't have any bearing, yet. Motion Control function will be added by a network update.

PS3 sells a million units since September 1. Again a tentative number provided by Sony. But I'm sure its not far off. This could be some cross over of the larger console or just the price point but I know I am one of those million units sold and loving it. Can't wait for some of the big exclusives this fall. Down side - 2ft USB cable for the controller come on? Good thing it can go wireless.

Finally, some bundles to announce. A serious lineup for the holiday season including - 250GB PS3s with either FIFA 10 and Need for Speed Shift. Both bundles will be available throughout retail in October.

Slim System and Price Could Make It The Year of The PS3

This will probably come off as sounding like a PS3 fanboy rant but it's not my intention. It's more of an industry observation and my thoughts on a possible shift of power if you will. Sony made a fairly big announcement this week at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany which could bring them back into the limelight. Confirming the rumor we all knew, about the PS3 Slim and a significant price cut, finally puts them in direct alignment with the 360. Reducing the system size and power consumption by about 30% and dropping the price tag to $299 for a 160GB system should have Microsoft on its heels. This seems like an all for broke move by Sony and honestly I think it will pay off. The hefty and arguable value of spending $400/$500 on a system held back the PS3, well it did for me at least. Even though you were getting some of the best gaming tech out there plus a blu-ray player and hub for digital media that will only improve. Spending that much just wasn't in the cards for alot of people including PS fans. But this has been a moment I've been waiting for and was something that was inevitable, especially if they wanted to compete with the 360. [ more.. ]

Fallout 3 PS3 DLC Screens

Fallout 3

Remember when we said there would be some DLC for Fallout 3 for PS3? Well, here are a couple screenshots from each delayed release. The one above is from Operation: Anchorage while The Pitt and Broken Steel are after the break. The DLC was supposed to be available by the end of June but due to some 'technical' difficulties with developing for the PS3 it's been delayed. Rumor has it the DLC will be available by 'The end of September.' Don't hold your breath.

Another Multiplayer Demo For Uncharted 2 And A Release Date, Kinda

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

I missed the first multiplayer round for Uncharted 2 but according to Naughty Dog's Evan Wells, in a live chat, there will be another multiplayer demo before the title's official release. Timing for the demo hasn't been finalized yet but according to Evan it will be available to a much larger audience this time around so you won't feel left out. He also commented on the release date for Uncharted Duece and although he didn't give a specific date we did get a "very soon" aka the fall. When will then be now? Soon sir. How soon? [source]

New Punisher Trailer Really Offers No Mercy

This quick trailer really shows off the 'No Mercy' aspect of the new title, which is due out this Thursday (7/2) on the Playstation Network. Show some brains, blood splatter and dismemberment via shotgun put to some shitty 'metal' music and you have yourself a kickass trailer.

New Content and Shadow Moses Map Available For Metal Gear Online

Shadow Moses

For the week long celebration of MGS4's anniversary Konami today released some new content and the famed "Shadow Moses" map for Metal Gear Online. The content will be available for those who purchased the SCENE Expansion Pack. The new map - Icebound Inferno - aka Shadow Moses features an Artic Island with a large snowfield and buildings of varying heights. Wow, cool. Along with this cool map players can use Old Snake as a unique character and the Octo-cam suit as a weapon. Of course there is a twist - the suit will not make Snake completely invisible but will allow him to automatically blend with the environment. Amazing. There is also something about Auto Matching Reward mode where the winner of the match wins more reward points than normal. Sweet, a daily double. Three expansion packs are available for purchase via Metal Gear Online in-game shop. Now, go kill shit in the snow.

Konami To Celebrate MGS4 One Year Anniversary This Week

Konami

In celebration of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots one year anniversary, Konami has announced they will make daily updates and announcements on the franchise each day this week. Fans can expect game updates and other 'highly anticipated' announcements about the series. Another title? Or just videos on how the game was made? Or maybe some crazy DLC that will blow our minds? Who knows - but as soon as we know we'll let you know. Unless of course we forget to post it which tends to happen sometimes.

Fallout 3 DLC Coming to PS3

Fallout 3

Bethesda Softworks has announced that DLC is coming to the PS3 version of the hit title Fallout 3 via the Playstation Network. Operation: Anchorage will be released in late June followed up by The Pitt and Broken Steel about 4-6 weeks apart. Official release dates will be announced soon. There will also be an update for the PS3 that will allow users to download and play the new DLC, which is pretty important for the first part of this to happen. And if that wasn't enough for you - there will also be two new DLCs for all three consoles, descriptions below. I know, crazy isn't it. You're going to have DLC up the ass starting this June.

Point Lookout - Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content. PL will be available in late June for 360 and PC. Available for PS3 after the first three DLCs have been released.
Mothership Zeta - The aliens have returned, and they're pissed. No sh**. Experience an alien abduction first hand - been there done that - and find out if you're tough enough to survive. Back to that DLC up the ass comment... MZ is scheduled for release in late July for 360 and PC. For PS3 - after Point Lookout.

Playable Joker Exclusively for PS3 - Batman: Arkham Asylum

So as more and more info gets released for Batman: Arkham Asylum - the more and more I get excited about it. Finally, we may get the Batman game we've wanted. From the villians you'll face, including a, ah-hem, revealing Harley Quinn to some more random villains, Arkham Asylum looks to be THE Batman game. Now Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. have announced that the Joker himself will be a playable character exclusively for the PS3 version of the title. The Joker will be available as a free download and can be played in Challenge Maps from the game. All this hype lets hope it lives up to it.

New Semi-Useless Update for PS3 Available for Download

Sony announced new system software update 2.70 is now available. Sadly, this update won't bring any new games to the PS3 but will  bring some useless features like text chat. The update is a free download which is nice - so they have that going for them. Some key features include: Text Chat - making it easier to chat with friends and you can even chat during a game, Dynamic Normaliser for music - just normalizes sound level between hi-def and lo-def tracks so you don't have to adjust the volume each time, Better Control of the Internet - this is stupid and can't be done, and last but not least, Language fixes - for all the Polish, Greek, Czech, Slovak, and Turkish players out there this update will allow you to be able to read the screen.

MGS 4 adds a new online mission - available Jan. 27

Konami is going to release a new team based game mode for its Metal Gear Online title. The new Bomb Mission mode will be available to all Metal Gear online users. In the new mission teams are charged with destroying or protecting an area on the game map. Players either plant timed explosives in the city and protect the bomb until it goes off or deactivate the explosive with a coolant solution. This placed inside a tight time limit and you have yourself a tense little battle. The new Bomb Mission Mode will be available on Tuesday, January 27th. (Tomorrow for those without a calendar)

After All This Time, PS2 Still Rules

Metal Gear Solid coming to the iPhone and iPod touch

There were rumors going around about this logo and what it meant for the next Metal Gear game, and of course thanks to director Kojima it remained unknown. Obviously, everyone's first guess was MGS4 for Xbox and I'm sure the similarity between logos of was played up. Great way to create hype actually. Well the new Metal Gear Solid game is not for Xbox, and probably never will be. The new MGS game, based on MGS4: Guns of the Patriots, is for the iPhone and the iPod Touch which is due for release in spring '09. There is also word of additional DLC after the release. Other titles will be released for the iPhone and iPod Touch before the end of December which include Dance Dance Revolution S Lite - thank F$%king god, Frogger and Silent Hil: The Escape.

God of War III New Trailer

Now that the [8bit office] has a PS3 we might actually play this one. Looks pretty sick and like it will hold up to the usual hype attached to a God of War game.
