InFamous Movie Gets "Writer"

I swear we are not turning into a "games on film" site. It's just that Hollywood is trying to steal all of your money, and I like reporting on it. So, the powers that be have signed the writer of the prequel of the remake of Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre to adapt InFamous. So you can pretty much file this project under "wait for it to air on the SyFy channel." Luckily for "writer" Sheldon Turner, InFamous should be relatively easy to adapt once he decides whether he will be good or evil. It being Hollywood after all, my money is on evil. If they are looking to save this mental dump with casting, I vote for Chris Evans as Cole.

Alien vs. Predator: Marine Campaign Trailer

Sega has just released a new trailer for their upcoming Alien vs. Predator game. The trailer focuses on the easy breezy life of a space marine trying to squash a small Xenomorph infestation. Call me crazy, but I love playing as the marine in these games, but then again I am masochist. Facehuggers in a dark bathroom? H.R Geiger inspired jump scares? Running low on ammo, obviously outnumbered and no hope of surviving? Sign me up Hicks. Nice, I made it the whole post without ranking on Paul W.S. Anderson. Click here for the trailer.

Castlevania Movie Gets Screwed, I mean Sawed

Any and all hope I had for Hollywood churning out a solid Castlevania film just blew up in my face like Danny Glover's torso. James Wan, director of Saw and a movie about killer puppets has been tapped to direct Castlevania. Wan had my respect with Saw, and while it wasn't the most visually interesting movie, it redefined horror (for better of worse) and showed what could be achieved with a small budget and a hard-on for Se7en. His career henceforth though has been less than inspiring. With Wan helming this flick I get the feeling that this adaptation is going to have a minimal budget. Castlevania is going to be the definition of a smash and grab. As if it wasn't bad enough having Nintendo selling your youth back to you, now Hollywood is hip to the trend.

No One Can Hear You Scream In Dead Space

According to the soulless vapid omniscient eye of Variety, D.J. Caruso has been tapped to direct an adaptation of EA's Dead Space. Caruso is best known for his film Disturbia, a spiritual remake of Hitchcock’s Rear Window. Caruso has a great eye and I couldn’t be happier with this choice. Every sci-fi horror film that takes place in space will be compared to the poorly aging Event Horizon. I was personally fearful that the director of that film, Paul W.S. Anderson would end up helming the Dead Space adaptation. So forgive me if I seem a little too happy about this news, but I loved Dead Space and I love science fiction films. This announcement certainly completes Caruso's metamorphosis into a  studio director, but I wholeheartedly trust him with this property.

Hitman 5 Plot to Coincide With Movie Sequel

As you may have already heard Hitman 5 is in production - as is a sequel to the so-so movie - and is looking at a late 2010 release. Twentieth Century Fox has hired screenwriter Kyle Ward to script the film which will have caught Agent 47 at a low point and he must build himself back up physically and mentally to reclaim his 'most feared assassin' status. The film, according to Variety, will have elements from the game Hitman 5. Ward has also scripted "Kane & Lynch" which will be a Lionsgate film with Bruce Willis starring and Simon Crane directing.

The Movies That Inspired MGS

The Japanese equivalent of Best Buy has put up a list of the movies that apparently inspired Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima. The list is dominated by action (duh) with some sci-fi thrown in for good measure. Chances are also quite high you'll find one of these films playing in the [8bit] offices. For Tsutaya's page about the list, click here. I hope you can read japanese. If you can't here's the list in sweet, sweet american. The Guns of Navarone. The Great Escape. Goldfinger. 2001. Planet of the Apes. The Deer Hunter. Dawn of the Dead. Full Metal Jacket. Predator. Die Hard. Heat. Black Hawk Down. Children of Men. The Bourne Identity. Casino Royale. [/film]

What Ever Happened To The Dark Knight Game?

I have to admit that I'd totally forgot there was a game tied to The Dark Knight until I read this article over at Kotaku. First it was going to be released with the film hit theaters, then it was delayed to line up with the home video product hitting stores. It never arrived. Kotaku's story is an in-depth investigation and retelling of what actually happened, from initial idea to getting the ax. Definitely worth the read.

Bob's Other Kid Directs Stuff

Bob's other son, Jesse Dylan has been busy directing stars (or almost stars) in Nintendo DS adverts. They're mildly amusing and pretty well made. He'd previosly directed movies you won't admit having seem, such as Kicking & Screaming. I never saw it myself, but that scene where Robert Duvall kicks Will Ferrell's ass in tetherball is classic, I hear. Check out a full round-up, and further smarmy analysis of the spots over at /film. Further, if you can identify the young lady playing games with Liv Tyler, you could win the very prestigious [8bit No Prize].

'300' director gets three game deal with EA

Zach Snyder the man behind, the worst, greatest (if your a frat boy that likes to yell), horriblest, stupidest or what ever you think of it-est, movie of all time, 300, just inked a deal with EA to develop three original titles. Zach Snyder is also behind the upcoming and much anticipated - in the sense of 'He better not f**k it up' mantra - Watchmen. EA sees Snyder as a creative force in film that has attracted the same demographic that the industry looks for. In the deal EA will own the intellectual properties but if they should attempt to make them into films then they will be produced by Snyder's Cruel & Unusual Films. This seems to be only a continuing pattern - Spielberg and John Woo both have had their names attached to games - as both industries look for outside creative sources. [gamesindustry.biz/Variety]

Duke Nukem meets Hollywood

In an attempt to take more of our money - Hollywood is working on a big screen adaptation of the classic FPS Duke Nukem. Scott Faye, the producer of the upcoming game to movie title Max Payne, which I'm actually looking forward to, is working with 3D Realms on a film version of the action hero Duke Nukem. Apparently there are also two new Duke Nukem titles coming out so this called perfect marketing timing - film, video game and some action figures - I just made us a mil this quarter - now get me my coffee! I'd only go see this movie if Arnold was still acting, right? am I right? [MCV via Kotaku for quotes we didn't use]

Check out new addition to Transformers 2 movie

Ok so as the first post that expands beyond the usual 8bit realm, which we will continue to do so, this isn't bad. (Sorry Ben this was all you) Although already kinda old news, the beast, and beauty, of a machine you see above is the new Corvette Centennial Concept Design - what that means in terms of 'will this actually be a car' or just a concept is not known. What we do know is it will be something that looks kick f@$king ass and appear in the Transformers movie sequel. Whether it's an Autobot or Decepticon is also not known. Head over to Jalopnik for a gallery worth of pics and a few links of it in action during filming. [jalopnik via Ben]
